looks like we got fresh air



The name Apollo is the name of a Roman god. His identity came from an older source, the goddess Apollon which was the important god venerated in a culture common to all Greek citystates. As is obvious the Romans nearly imported every item of the culture ruling both the Republic as the Empire, it must have been the original idea of representation of all cultural values in one personified identity fitted Roman society well and has been in accordance with the traditions on which the Roman concept of state was based.

Once and for all and above any doubt I can  add to this short identification that the idea of Apollo represented a god for the public cause, one in which Roman citizens did experience their idea about what should be their culture.  Personified like that ideal about culture was we see how this was represented by Apollo, creating this adherence to the personification experienced by way of taking a part in his cult too a condition by which the Roman citizens could conceive they were members of an international social order all of which identity was sacrificed to Apollo.

And the complexity of this effects, ways of reasoning and experience of the civilian circumstances became as if this were a true power materialized in the reality of society due to the acceptable way of civil life that power in the real world made possible and brought with. Not with much enthousiasm venerated in the armies this deity held a very popular position among the gods important in military life being his cult one which had to do with fine art, poetry, love and peace, values only counting to be important for a man having a civic home embedded in the society of a city or a town.

What is rather specific to Apollo is, though the world of art tried to give relation and background to the always new representative of  eternal youth, he gives with his diversified cult depending of the region in this big world of the Empire he was venerated,  a color differing with the cults of other gods in the pantheon. This then was bringing a new motive in the civil life of slave based society and agricultural production for which trade made possible by military power and resulting treaty could never be considered like the  main force behind social and political developments.  May the idea of Apollo represent special rules and norms in public life defining Roman culture, his cult works out integrative for what a man in this culture is expected to embody, all this only reachable for the wealthier top of society, making the participation in the adherence to the deity something exclusive and those sharing in that cult and believes thinking they were members as wel of the happy few.

Apollo is not like many other gods of the pantheon conceived as being one in the hieratic sphere of a triade. Even a strong prove of connectivity with the Roman goddess of hunt and some additional virtues of female strength Diana are missing. Much more than with Diana Apollo seems to have been venerated in an accordance with the cult of Minerva, in the first place the patron god of the city of Rome. Though many scolars believe Diana can be compared with the Greek twinsister of Apollon Artemis,. Roman Apollo is not esteemed to be the other half of a twin but exists for defining that special place he held 'in his own right'.
To me are no proves acknowledgeable that it was believed this Apollo would be a son of Jupiter given birth by a lower female god. About his birth are several myths but information any of those was more valuated than the other one is not available and like it was custom in the case of getting the rights of Roman citizenship his origins seem not to have played an important role.

What is significant for Apollo and his cult is its progressive embedding in Roman socialized religion being that the reasoning of pagan deification and cult adherence, the deity functions as the representative for the arts, of poetry and of more virtual qualities of human life defined by his character based on the type of the shepherd not any Roman citizen could ever identify himself with. That his type is not belonging to shared consciousness is in accordance with the custom society projects its values into a virtual reality 'not here', which is part of the experience vital to keep running the culture, and one that is general for all culture in all societies of Western World, that any tie with a past introducing the reasoning, in the case of deities the believe they would be in line with an older nature god, that what has been long ago was a better life, became disconnected, thus freeing a kind of believes too belonging to all religious practice, that the future will be better than the present is for certain.
